Sermon Notes

Thanksgiving week, its everywhere. The signs of the times, turkeys, brown leaves, pumpkin pies, the horns of plenty decorations, on and on. It’s around this time we are thinking of honey baked hams, mashed potatoes, stuffing, dressings, cranberry sauce, etc.

I think of family, I think of being free, I think of living in America. Even with all our problems this is still the greatest nation to live. I think of our veterans who have served in times past and those that are serving now in harms way. Thanksgiving, I think of little children who see the bright colors and smile with all their missing teeth. I think about our weather, sunsets and sunrises, I think of our oceans, lakes, and rivers. Thanksgiving, I think of books, my bible, vast amounts of technology. I think of God who is the creator of all of us. Thanksgiving is God, its all about God. God is love the Bible says, so gratefulness and thanksgiving come from the heart of God.

When i get down and frustrated about things In my life, when things are not going as well as i planned, I have to see and focus on something else. The only way to become ungrateful or unthankful is to see and focus on what you don’t have, or what is not good or right according to you and what you think.

Remember our key text: “in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 THESSALONIANS 5:18 AMP

“and give thanks whatever happens. That is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 NCV

In every situation no matter what the circumstances be thankful, give thanks whatever happens. This is Gods Word and Gods will for us. Everyone of us.

Thanksgiving. My neighbor Carlos just passed away this past week. On his birthday i felt inspired and led to ask our praise and worship team to go over and worship around him. He was confined to a bed down stairs because he was going to pass away any day. We worshipped and prayed for him and his family. The other day His wife came over. She was tired and drained, the loss of her husband right before the holidays. We loved on her, and Pastor Yvonne offered her some of her homemade obundigas, meat ball soup. She had nothing set up or anything. We offered our help, prayers, and support.

Every-time i drive into my place i am reminded of how thankful and grateful to God. He just fell asleep and left this world to begin his journey on the other side with our God.

Thanks giving is about giving thanks. In order to give you must have a change of heart. Most of what is seen in the media or news is negative. Our world sees only the dark side of things.

Everyday i pull in i see the window that Carlos would wave to me from. He would walk over to shake my hand and see how i was doing. He would ask about Yvonne and my kids. He would tell me he was praying for me. We would share back and forth and say we were praying for each other.

How can God ask us to give thanks no matter what happens or the situation? God has a different perspective than we do. He sees through eyes of eternity, we see through eyes of temporary.

“Yet you do not know [the least thing] about what may happen in your life tomorrow. [What is secure in your life?] You are merely a vapor [like a puff of smoke or a wisp of steam from a cooking pot] that is visible for a little while and then vanishes [into thin air].”
JAMES 4:14 AMP

“But you do not know what will happen tomorrow! Your life is like a mist. You can see it for a short time, but then it goes away.”
James 4:14 NCV

My neighbor Carlos helped me see a different perspective by his death. It caused me to see and appreciate life, my life and the lives of those around me. Sometimes you cant seem to be thankful or grateful till something is gone. When it is gone it could be to late.

God has given us life, hope, faith, love, mercy, opportunity, forgiveness, new life, new vision, etc.

I started my first year course on development and growth as a Pastor. To be better and more effective for God and my self and you and the world. I am thankful for God allowing me to have the privilege of this calling. I am thankful for God helping me. I am thankful for God choosing me to be here right now. I am thankful for God giving me time, time to love, time to grow, time to change, time to serve, time to lead, time to give, time is a gift.

Life is but a vapor. I believe so many people waist their time. We will all face God and give an account of what we did with the lives He gave us. He gave us our lives back through the gift and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He gave us life and time and opportunity. Many people will leave this earth with regret, wishing they would of changed, wishing they would of forgiven, wishing they could go back and make it right with their family.

Eternal Perspective is seeing life through God’s eyes. When i see life through the eyes of human is see lack, pain, hopelessness, sick, division, war, hate, racism, fear, etc… The eyes of human will always see the natural.

We have the eyes of human to see the challenges, but we must be guided by the eyes of Eternal, God eyes. Gods Spirit puts everything in a God perspective to see what really is.

God put His Spirit in us and this where hope, love, peace and power and all the fruits of the spirit flow from.

“For just as the [human] body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works [of obedience] is also dead.”
JAMES 2:26 AMP

I am thankful for the Holy Spirit. Our human self without the spirit is dead. This could be why so many people can hate, hurt, lie, cheat, steal, judge. We have been given the gift of His Holy Spirit which give life, Life to us who believer and receive this gift.
Spirit living is something to be so grateful and thankful for. You and i could not love if it was not for Gods Love.

“O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness endures forever.”
1 CHRONICLES 16:34 AMP
“You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous, and this [generosity, administered] through us is producing thanksgiving to God [from those who benefit].”
2 CORINTHIANS 9:11 AMP

“Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].”
PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7 AMP
