Sermon Notes

Our culture is so fast and many times we are driven to have a such a consumer mindset, you know buy, buy, buy, get, get, get, more, more, more, on and on that we miss out on being grateful.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.

Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude. Denis Waitley

I was watching this show and the little boy had been given a brand new pair of sneakers, they were all black. He felt so happy and blessed till he moved to a new school. All the boys had Jordan’s sneakers and now he felt ungrateful. He went home and just started complaining about his old, ugly sneakers. One moment he felt blessed and then in the next moment he felt so ungrateful.

People tend to start thinking and feeling more gratitude or less this time of year, Thanksgiving. We tend to get so happy this time of year. To see family, doing things together, feeling so blessed and grateful but why cant we keep this attitude and feeling all year long?

I think we need to cultivate a grateful mindset. Remember the word cultivate. It is a farming word. Cultivate means to prepare the ground for growth so you break up the old hard ground and fertilize it and get it ready to receive the seeds to grow a harvest.

Cultivating means also there are steps in this process you must to do, so action that will lead to this attitude of gratitude.

“Life is better if you develop an attitude of gratitude.”

But what exactly does that mean and how do we do it?

An attitude of gratitude means making it a habit to express thankfulness and appreciation in all parts of your life, on a regular basis, for both the big and small things alike.

“If you concentrate on what you have, you’ll always have more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you’ll never have enough.”

Last week we learned we don’t want to be STUCK IN YOUR YUCK. Yuck is what you create when you are ungrateful, unthankful, unhappy, etc.

“in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”

1 THESSALONIANS 5:18 AMP

We live is such a selfish it’s all about me culture. I realize this is why so many people get suck in their Yuck is they living life looking in, instead of doing life from within and looking and serving outside of self.

Attitude means: a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.

So your attitude is your way of thinking or feeling that is usually seen in how you act, or your behavior.

Attitude you speak with your actions, roll your eyes, make hissing sounds, body jerks, etc.

When our mindset is not on God and gratitude it is on us and usually ungrateful. This is why the Word says our mindset is to be set on things above and not on this world. One is grateful and the other is all about what we don’t have, or don’t get. We must be conscious about what we are thinking about at all times.

Your inner world will create your outer world. I seen people who complain they don’t  have enough money, God blesses them with a job. They are so grateful. Praising God, but then time happens then they start saying how they can’t stand their job, it’s to long, to hard, to much, on and on and on. They used to go in early, work late now they miss and don’t appreciate God’s Blessings so they Self Sabotage The blessings is now a curse to them. They loose the job or quit and now they are back complaining in the same place they were a few years ago. The attitude of ingratitude cause people to tear down, self destruction, destroy the blessings, or even block Gods Blessings.

Your attitude creates your reality.  The doctors say people who are grateful live longer, they tend to be healthier, they are for sure happier, they tend to have great  relationships, they sleep better, they live to be more successful than most. They create great lives for themselves and those around them.

Gratitude means: the state of being grateful. It is a Latin word Gratus, which means thankful or pleasing. What does Grateful mean? Feeling or showing an appreciation of kindness.

Gratitude is a grateful, thankful, pleasing, attitude that can be seen in your giving, living, serving, working, in your life. Your behavior and actions, and reactions show what attitude that of Gratitude or ungrateful.

This attitude is created when you are into God. God is surely into you. But when you get into God, this attitude is created and cultivated.  God causes you see things differently. Selfish, humans see things a certain way, they see only what they don’t have, or what they need to be happy, Self is never satisfied. It wants everything and your stuff too. A God Attitude is a grateful attitude. A God Lifestyle is loving, caring, helping, giving, serving, leading, joyful, content, powerful.

“Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth. Serve the LORD with gladness and delight; Come before His presence with joyful singing. Know and fully recognize with gratitude that the LORD Himself is God; It is He who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are His]. We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with a song of thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, bless and praise His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy and lovingkindness are everlasting, His faithfulness [endures] to all generations.”  Psalms 100: 1-5

David said shout joyfully to the Lord. You can’t do this with Yuck in your life. You shout at God with anger, resentment, bitterness, no this is shout joyfully. Joy is a mindset. It is a state of the heart. Joy or hate is a choice. You and I have the ability to control what we think, then what we feel, then how we act or react. It is you choice and you have the power to control YOU. Most people choose to just react and let circumstances and situations have control. This is a selfish human mindset. This mindset will never be happy. This mindset will never see good anywhere. This mindset will never love and be loved. This mindset is self destructive and tears down instead of builds up.
